The Portland Marathon presented by OHSU will take place on Sunday, October 1, 2023 between 7 AM and 2 PM. Just a heads up for everyone who might be out early on a Saturday morning!
ROUTE DESCRIPTION IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
Although the actual race route does not enter the Reed Neighborhood, it will impact nearby streets. Runners start the race in Downtown Portland and make their way south to cross over the Sellwood Bridge in Sellwood. They then continue east on SE Bybee Blvd and enter Eastmoreland. The route heads north on Reed College Pl and performs a counter-clockwise loop around the Reed College Campus. It then heads south back down Reed College Pl and returns to Sellwood via SE Bybee Blvd. From Sellwood the runners head north on SE Milwaukie Ave and make their way to the Burnside Bridge to cross back over into Downtown for the race finish.
SPECIAL TRAFFIC CONSIDERATIONS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD
It is recommended that Reed residents do not attempt to use SE 28th Ave to travel anywhere south of SE Steele St from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the day of the race. If it is absolutely necessary to enter Eastmoreland from Reed via SE 28th Ave, traffic control personnel will be present to assist vehicles to do so, but there will be significant delays. Once in Eastmoreland, it will not be possible to continue down SE 28th Ave to cross over 99E on Bybee Blvd. Cesar Chavez Blvd should be used as an alternative for any travel south of SE Steele St.
SE Woodstock Blvd between SE 36th Ave and SE 28h Ave will be entirely closed from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
It will not be possible to drive east/west across SE Milwaukie Ave on SE Holgate Blvd. All vehicles will be turned away one block prior to reaching SE Holgate Blvd. SE Powell Blvd will remain open and unimpacted throughout the entire event, and should be used as an alternative route for westbound travel.
SE McLoughlin Blvd (99E) will be accessible via SE 17th Ave and there will be no impacts to 99E itself.
Westbound travel across the Sellwood Bridge will not be possible between 7:00 and 10:45 a.m.
